Rinta Rocks! 10-U Grey Hawks End Legends 8-5 in Hicksville Tournament Opener

In his first-ever appearance on a mound anywhere in his life, Rinta hurled 80 pitches over 3.2 innings, allowing only two runs!  He teamed with John C. and Jake L. for a 1-3-2 double play in the first then stranded a man at third when Max D. caught a shot in left field.

The Grey Hawks turned another double play in the second inning on a double steal attempt when catcher Jake L. threw to Miles C. who made the tag at third then threw to Jake W. for the out at second.  Rinta then struck out the next batter to end the second inning.  Ira  put the Hawks on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second with a two-out, two-run double, but Port Washington tied it up on a walk followed by a triple then a walk followed by a single.  Rinta K-ed another batter in that inning and made a 1-3 play with John C.  Robbie P. and Miles C. made a 6-5 play for the third out.  Port Washington went ahead for the first and only time in the fourth on a single, a hit-batsman, another single and an RBI & BB.  Jesse L. made a fine catch of a ball to right field for an out.  Max D. threw from third to catcher Jake L. for a play at the plate.  John C. faced the final  hitter of the inning, getting him to pop up back to the mound.

Rinta led off the bottom of the fourth with a homerun to right field to tie things at 3.   The next three batters reached base on two walks and a HBP.  Jesse L. drove home Robbie P. to put the Grey Hawks ahead 4-3.    John C. threw a 1-2-3-4 fifth inning, with Rinta making a putout in centerfield, followed by a strike out, a walk, then a 1-3 play with Ira at first.

Ira drove in run number 5 on a single in the fifth, going 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and 2 BB on the day.  Two more Hawks crossed the plate when Robbie P. knocked one through the second baseman's legs.    Jesse L. drove in the Grey Hawks' 8th run on a two-out double.  Miles on the mound in the sixth made it exciting, giving up 3 runs, but closed the door by getting a 6-3 play and two Ks to "end the Legends"!
