Another Game…Another Chance…to Have Fun
The 8U Hawks hosted the North Bellmore North Merrick Rebels on Saturday, to try and even up the season series.
Unfortunately, the Rebels scored early and often, on their way to a 12-2 win.
We had plenty of scoring opportunities, but were only able to come away with two runs. Scored by Papi and Harrison K and driven in by Zack H and Nick S, respectively.
The boys were very aggressive at the plate this game. Nobody went down looking. The K-Man took two for the team. Tylenol anyone?
On the bases, the boys were cautiously aggressive (oxymoron?). In the second inning Joe S “stole” third, sliding 4 feet short of the bag and eventually reaching third base safely. Nice slide…but let’s get a little closer next time. OK? Great! Thanks for playing.
After first learning how to defend against the bunt just the night before, the Hawks had three chances to put their skills to the test. In the second inning with a runner on first for the Rebels, their number 2 hitter laid down the perfect bunt. Stretch, playing first, charged the ball and flipped to Sparky covering first. Nice job! The next two bunts didn’t go our way, but the execution was there. The first and third basemen charged the bunt and the second baseman covered first.
The defense also showed, once again, the importance of backing up. In the 4th inning, the Rebels had a runner on first with one out. A bloop was hit to right field. The Big Dawg, playing right-center field, backed up the play, picked up the ball and fired a strike to William P, covering second. Forcing the runner at second for the second out of the inning.
The loss brings the Hawks’ record below .500 at 5-6.
The boys travel to Hicksville on Monday night.
Let’s Go Hawks…keep learning…and keep having fun!
T-Bird…GET WELL SOON!
