8U Hawks Play Their Best Game of the Season

The 8U Hawks headed west to visit Hicksville on Tuesday night to keep their winning streak alive.

Zack H, Will P and Joe S pitched well for the Hawks striking out 10 batters.

The Hawks started the scoring with a bases loaded walk to Will P scoring Mike B with the first run of the game. Hicksville came back with two of their own in the bottom of the frame. To take a 2-1 lead.

In the second, the Hawks went down quietly. Hicksville increased their lead with a run in the bottom of the inning. Making the score 3-1 after two.

The third inning saw the Hawks put 3 runs on the board. Danny D singled home Tyler B & Mike B and Mike R drove in Zack H. In the bottom of the third, the catch of the game came after Hicksville’s cleanup hitter hit a home run to tie the game. The next batter hit a bloop into right field, Kyle U, playing second base, never lost sight of the ball. Diving into right field, to rob the Hicksvillian of a potential single. Ending the inning at 4-4.

The fourth inning proved to be another productive inning for the Hawks. Jason L singled home Kyle U. Harrison K and Tyler B both had crucial walks scoring Luke B and Jason L. Hicksville, keeping the score close, pushed across two runs. End of four, Hawks lead 7-6.

In the top of the fifth and final inning (due to darkness), the Hawks had runners on first and second with two outs, but couldn’t get the insurance run home. Hicksville, with two outs, hit back to back doubles to tie the game at 7. If not for the perfect relay from Mike B to Will P, the second double easily could have gone for a triple. Then came the play of the game. With the runner on second and two outs, the batter hit a would-be run scoring single between short and third. Will P, playing shortstop, dove and back-handed the grounder. Stopping it from going into left field and holding the potential winning run at third. The next batter hit a ground ball to third, Luke B scooped it and threw to Mike R at first to end the game.

Final score 7-7…and a great game for both teams, coaches and fans.

The tie keeps the Hawks over .500 at 7-6-1.

The boys are scheduled to host Syosset on Saturday morning, at the Pool field, for their final game of the season.

Come on out and root the Hawks on.

Bring on the fun, HAWKS!
